Best in Class Franchise Owner Uses Technology to Help Parents and Students with College Readiness

August 18, 2023

Sanjeev Gupta, a Best in Class Education Center owner in Redmond, Washington, is no stranger to technology. He has over three decades of experience working in the software industry.

About eight years ago, however, he wondered what else he could do on the side of his profession. He recalls the day he thought, “I would like to teach.”

Gupta, a father of two and graduate of the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology, had taken a great interest in watching his children’s educational paths. The desire to teach, he said, was planted with them.

The Journey from an Idea to a Franchise

Many years ago, seeking educational enrichment for his son, Gupta found a Best in Class Education Center. After reviewing the curriculum, he confidently enrolled his son.

“Once he started at Best in Class, I could see so much learning happening. I watched my son easily transfer the knowledge to his studies,” Gupta said.

He continued, “Best in Class set up a strong foundation for him, and it was very satisfying to watch as a parent.”

Then it was his daughter’s turn.

During the pandemic, Gupta enrolled his daughter at a satellite center in Redmond. Best in Class’s franchise opportunities were temporarily unavailable due to business dynamics during the shutdown and reopening months, but a satellite center operated in Redmond for local student support. During that time, Gupta recalls he knew how to make his desire to teach a reality. While he eagerly awaited franchise opportunities to reopen, he spoke to his wife about owning a Best in Class Center, and she was on board.

As soon as franchise opportunities reopened, Gupta went through the process of center ownership. Events happened quickly, and one day, he found himself living an exciting new chapter as someone who could impact children’s education, giving others what had been given to his children.

A Webinar Bridges an Information Gap for Parents and Students

Best in Class encourages its franchise owners to bring their passions and talents to the education table. As someone who naturally sees the power of technology to create solutions, Gupta noted an opportunity to meet an education need through technology.

The education gap wasn’t related to math or English but rather to a lack of college preparation resources. He noted that parents and college-bound high-school students were often caught off-guard by the complex road from high school to university.

He had been one of those parents who navigated the unknown path to college along with his son.

When his son eventually earned an acceptance to Princeton, Gupta realized he had learned a lot of valuable information about the often-complicated college admissions process. He knew his family’s experience could benefit other parents and students.

At his Best in Class Center, Gupta developed a webinar to unite students and parents on the road to college with students and parents who had successfully traversed the path. Gupta and his son sat as panelists, along with others selected to share their stories. Another Best In Class franchise owner and college professor, Tanmoy Kumar, the owner of three Houston locations, also joined the panel.

Gupta shared, “Tanmoy represents what’s remarkable about Best in Class. Hao Lam, the founder, connected me to Tanmoy when I first became a center owner. We had many family, education, and professional parallels. He’s become a great mentor to me, and I was grateful for his input as a panelist.”

The panel and audience discussed how students could differentiate themselves from other college applicants. They spend time talking about the power of a personal story to connect with admissions officers and shine beyond excellent grades. Gupta says more webinars on topics pertinent to college-bound students and their parents are planned for the near future.
